AC Bennett's Obituary
Funeral services for AC Bennett of Simpson, Louisiana, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Simpson Baptist Church with Revs. Jeremy Blocker and Gil Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Island Cemetery in Simpson under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 17, from 3:00 –9:00 P.M. at the church, and again Monday, November 18th from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.
Mr. Bennett, the son of John Allen Bennett and Hattie Temple Bennett was born September 25, 1923 in Simpson. He entered eternal rest Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Grace Home in Alexandria.
AC met the love of his life, Virginia Ruth and was married for 66 years. He served our country in the United States Navy a total of 25 years as an Air Traffic Controller during World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received recognition for being a 60 year member of the Naval Fleet Reserve. He served on the Board of Directors for Valley Electric and Cajun Electric. He served as Justice of the Peace for Ward 6. He was President of the Simpson Cemetery Association Committee . Mr. Bennett taught the men’s Sunday School Class at Simpson Baptist Church for 30 years and was a deacon for 40 years. He also chaired numerous Church Committees. But most of all he was a people person. He was devoted to and loved his family. Mr. Bennett loved his Lord and church family and his community. He expressed his love through his bountiful farming which he shared generously.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his four sons; Larry Bennett of Groves, Texas, John Bennett and wife Donia of Elmer, Louisiana, Shawn Bennett & wife Dusty of DeRidder, Louisiana, Shannon Bennett & wife Joline of DeRidder, Louisiana; one daughter, Debi Bennett of Austin, Texas, a sister, Nelda Burns of Orange, Texas, one brother, AJ Bennett of Shreveport, 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Ruth Bennett and daughter, Janet Kay Bennett.
